Following Arsenal LIVE on the Internet
Please note
A lot of this information duplicates that on Ian Sealy's Arsenal Live page.
Ian's page is temporarily out of action at the moment but should be up and
running again soon.
Although I try to keep the information on this page up-to-date,
I'm no expert on these things and so there's liable to be some
slippage (since I'm lucky enough to be able to go to the
games). So if things don't work, try the other people's sites
listed below for more recent info, from people who actually
use these things!
World-Wide Web
There are various footy web sites which give updates during matches.
We can't do this at ArseWeb as yet (we're lucky enough to get to go to
the matches and try to get results up as soon as possible afterwards)
but you might like to try the following commercial sites' pages:
AFCi's live typed-in
commentary page appears to have died, as has the ISFA's IRCbury
page (for "Arsefans").
Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
Yes, it is possible to get live commentary for Arsenal matches on
the Internet!
- When the #arsenal channel is in full flow during matches, you will be able
to chat with other fans during the
game as well as benefiting from live commentary relayed by other fans with
access to the radio or TV coverage.
- Gooners in Exile
IRC information, by Trev M (OzGooner)
- Ian Sealy's
"Arsenal LIVE" page
has more in the way of description and instructions
- Gunnerlink's IRC
page has some handy IRC links.
Radio commentary via RealAudio
In addition, it is now possible to get
radio commentary from Capital Gold
(featuring Jonathan Pearce), or
Radio5 Live,
over the net, as it happens.
- You'll need to be able to download and run RealPlayer. Go
to the Real home page
for the latest download.
- Once you've got it, just follow the following link for the
Capital Gold feed (if this doesn't work - try going to
the Capital Gold website, and click on the "On Air Now" link under "On Air" in the left-hand menu)...
- ...or this one for the Radio 5 feed (if this one doesn't work, go to the
BBC home page, there are
links to radio feeds there, bottom-right last time I looked).
- There's also an IRN feed (hourly updates of sports news)
Here are some instructions, supplied by Mark Brosnan. Most of it
is
out of date now but if you're having trouble with RealAudio feeds
some of the following may help.
-
For those with 14.4 (or preferably 28.8+) connections, follow the instructions
below for LIVE Radio commentary (example: max 30 second delay to Thailand).
- Get the latest Real audio player (RealPlayer) from their home site
- Install it.
- Make sure you have a RealAudio compatible browser (eg Netscape or
Internet Explorer 3.0+)
- Add "ral audio"
as the helper application for audio/x-pm-realaudio files (in the options
pull down menu)
- Click on one of the feed links above
- Sit back and listen to the match.
