- Left Arsenal: to West_Ham, on a free, 13th July 1998
Wright was loaned to Forest the next year, and spent brief periods at Celtic and Burnley before retiring from the game in 2000.
He went on to become a TV presenter, with chat shows, game shows, the excellent Wright and Bright radio show (with former Palace strike partner Mark Bright) and always-entertaining and passionate appearances as a pundit on Match of the Day
- Joined Arsenal: Sept 1991, from Crystal_Palace, for £2.5m (Arsenal's record fee at the time)
- Former clubs: Crystal Palace. Ian joined them from non-league at the unusually late age of 22. He'd been rejected by Millwall and Brighton and ended up playing for Greenwich Borough where Palace scout Peter Prentice spotted him
- Arsenal debut: v Leicester_City (a), League (Rumbelows) Cup, Sept 1991
(1-1, Wright scored Arsenal's goal)
- Ian scored a hattrick in his first league game, against Soton at the Dell (4-0 overall)
- In 1991/92 Ian needed a hat-trick in the last game (against Soton again, poor sods, but at Highbury this time) to beat Gary Lineker to the golden boot by a single goal. He did it, scoring the last two goals in the dying seconds of the game!)
On Saturday 13th September 1997 Wright scored a hat-trick against Bolton at Highbury, the first goal of which put Wright equal with Cliff Bastin at the top of the all-time Arsenal goal-scorers list on 178. He got carried away and celebrated by removing his jersey to reveal a "Just done it: 179" t-shirt. One goal too early! But it proved to be more an omen than an embarassment as he went on to score twice more in the match.
- Ian went on to extend the above record to 185 (see record-breakers page). The record was beaten by Thierry Henry on 18th October 2005.
- Ian holds various other club records, see record-breakers page
- Probably the greatest exponent of varied and imaginative goal celebrations the game has ever seen

- In 1994/95 season Ian scored in 10 successive appearances, beating David Jack's 63-yr old club record. (see it on that season's fixture list)
- Wright scored on every conceivable debut game for Arsenal, bar one:
- League A - Southampton
- League H - Chelsea
- league Cup A - Leicester
- League Cup H - Leicester
- FA Cup A - Yeovil
- FA Cup H - Nottm Forest
- Charity Shield - Man Utd
- European CWC A - Odense BK
- European CWC H - had to wait till his second home game in this competition!
- UEFA Cup H - Borussia Moenchengladbach
- UEFA Cup A - Borussia Moenchengladbach
- In 1998 Wright, who had not played since being injured a while before, did not make it onto the field in the FA Cup final as we went on the complete the double. For many Arsenal fans, this is by far the worst thing Arsene_Wenger ever did as Arsenal boss!
- England career: 33 caps, 9 goals.
debut: Feb 6th 1991 (vs Cameroon at Wembley)
last England game: Nov 18th 1998 (vs Czech Republic at Wembley)
- Classic quote from 1997: "He (Ferguson) lost it completely in one TV interview and started having a go at Arsene Wenger, telling him to concentrate on talking to Ian Wright about his challenges. But I tell you what: when has he ever seen Ian Wright jump into the crowd and kick somebody? And believe me, I've had much more reason to do that than Eric Cantona. There's absolutely no way Cantona gets more stick than me. But that's typical United - they reckon the world is against them." Ian played like he spoke (and continues to speak): like a fan.
- Adopted sons Shaun and Bradley Wright-Phillips play in the Premiership for Chelsea and Man City respectively
