Me

Born...
in Brighton, E.Sussex. 1966

Then...
lived & schooled in Lewes, E.Sussex. Studied in Oxford (maths + philosophy) & London ("cognitive science", whatever that is).

Now working...
As a senior software engineer on Football Superstars, a football MMO, for Cyberports Ltd. Based in Farringdon.

Previously working..
In the Applied Clinical Anatomy Research Group at Guy's Hospital medical school (now taken over by KCL. Basically, we measured features of joint pathology from x-rays using computerised image analysis. I obtained my PhD while working at Guy's, and also spent some time working on a state-of-the-art high magnification CT set.

Then I spent a year as a Research Fellow in the Astronomy Centre at the University of Sussex. I am working on source detection algorithms for locating and characterising images of stars and galaxies, in particular those which will be provided by a new infra-red detector called SPIRE which due to be launched on the European Space Agency's Herschel satellite early in 2009.

Then changed career path for Computer Games (which I don't play, but enjoy making). For 18 months as a Programmer on Championship Manager for BGS/Eidos, until they closed down UK development of the game.

Living...
in Hackney since 1996

Playing...
Pool, badminton, chess, poker, and whatever games I can find people to play them with.

My web pages

Greater London County Pool Association
I have been the captain of London's A Team since 2005, winning the national Inter-County title in 2010 and 2011, and am involved in the development and maintainance of the GLCPA website.

ArseWeb
The first ever site devoted to Arsenal football club, running since 1994 and still one of the biggest and best-respected independent football sites.

Sadly, Arseweb has been out of action for a while, as I needed to concentrate on my new job at Sussex, but I fully intend to resurrect it as soon as I can.

Includes NewsReel: an online news database powered by my own perl scripts.

But I'm not one of those people who treats football like it matters. It's like a real-life soap-opera to me.

For fun, check out the unusual injuries page and the (absurdly over-researched) Celebrity Arsenal fans page, much-referenced by media parasites.

Photos
My online photo galleries: parties, festivals, holidays, family and friends...

Pool pages
Including a much-used page about the rules of 8-ball pool (covering all the different sets of rules used in the UK) and the web site for the Imperial Pool League in N.London. Also the "Unusual Pool & Snooker injuries" page, an extension of the similar football-related page on Arseweb.

Proof of Pythagoras theorem
A simple and pleasing proof which I devised and present here in the form of an animation. I believe it's the simplest and most aesthetic proof there is.
