Pubs for Champs League 2002
Matches which are on ITV2 are accessible to pubs with Sky Digital,
Terrestrial Digital, and cable.
For matches that are on ITN News, things are more complicated. The pub
needs to have cable, and the right kind of cable. We have been told
that the following venues will be showing the games, but at the time
of writing it's hard to be certain. If you don't want
to waste a journey please call the venue and ask them first.
It would also be worth calling other venues listed below.
Please please please, do not take our word for it. This list is
intended to help, but it is NOT definitive.
- The Sports Cafe, Haymarket (this one has been phoned
and confirmed they'll show the game)
- F3K (West Kensington), also a definite
- Provoke (Ilford), another definite
- Lion & Unicorn (Kentish Town), another definite
- Spanish Arch, Belmont Circle, Harrow, Middx (0208 9093269), this is definite
- The James Joyce, 89 Kenton Road, Harrow, Middlesex (0208 907 9237), also definite
-
- The Twelve Pins, 263 Seven Sisters Rd
- Old Queen's Head, Essex Road
- Vasco da Game, 152 Old South Lambeth Rd (showed the Newcastle
game on the first week, commentary in Russian or something like that.
It's not a big place and was packed!)
- Falcon Kitchen, Falcon Rd, Clapham Jn (definitely showed the
Newcastle game in week 1)
- Frog & Firkin, corner of Ladbroke Grove/Westbourne Park Rd
- JD Sports Bar, Mornington Crescent
- Brewery Tap, Brentwood
- Innes Free, Ballards Lane, Finchley. (have confirmed they
will NOT be showing the game)
- The Tavern, Welwyn High St (NOT Welwyn Gdn City)
- White Hart in South Woodford E18
- the Royal Oak in Loughton Essex
- Kerrigans, Bell Lane, Hendon, Middx (02083492577), have said
they won't find out till the day
- What else you can do My recommendation is use the
SportsPubs site (and WSC etc), see FAQ
to find football-showing pubs in your area, then ring them.
If you can add to or correct any of the information here,
please get in touch
Pubs showing Sky Digital
- The following list was put together for the UEFA Cup campaign of 1999-2000.
- All these pubs have been known to show the Arsenal matches
that are only available (in the UK) on Sky digital
- We cannot guarantee that they'll be showing any specific game,
but they're all very much worth ringing to check (see
also comments on specific pubs).
- If you can add any pubs to this list, please email me with as much info as you can
- This list is only for UK venues. There are other sites that
deal with venues in other countries better than we ever could.
See Non-UK TV FAQ for
lots of links and other info on watching football abroad.
London
- The Twelve Pins, 263 Seven Sisters Rd
- 3 big screens (plus tellys). Sky digital, ITVdigital, other sports channels

- (near the new Tesco) No big screen, 2 little ones.
- The Albion, Goldsmiths Row
- Shows ITVDigital as well as Sky and Sky Digital games. They
also do Saturday afternoon and other premiership games using foreign
channels. For example they showed the Leicester game on 23/01/02
despite the fact that we didn't think it was on telly anywehere... using
a Luxembourg channel.
Goldsmiths Row runs from Hackney Road (by the City Farm)
to Broadway Market.
- Whittington Cat, Highgate Hill
- Yucatan Bar, Stoke Newington High Street
- Big pub with lots of screens. Always heaving with Arsenal fans
when they're playing. Bedlam.

- The Jolly Butchers - 204 Stoke Newington High St, N16

quality on this is poor) and several TVs. Can be a cracking atmosphere if

whatever's the main match scheduled for MOTD - fed from Turkish telly).
- Highbury Barn, Higbury Park (or whatever it's called at that point)
- See Perdy's pub guide (link below)

any others on the same
night (not sure if the landlord is a Gooner or not).
Nice pub, top Thai food can be ordered as well if desired
- Ned Kelly's Pub, Willesden Green
- Nick Griffiths writes: "Four massive screens, good beer and they always show Arsenal regardless of who else is playing (the landlord is a Gooner) on SKY, ITVDigital and any other dodgy satellite station you'd care to mention. They also show Premier League on Saturdays which is nice if you can't wait for MOTD or can't get a ticket for the game."
- Spanish Arch, Harrow
- Belmont circle. Also has ITVDigital.
- the TUP, Liverpool Rd
Outside London
- Brighton: Royal Oak and Temple Bar
- March 2006. Ian Eiloart writes to tell us that the Royal Sovereign on
Preston Street, where the Gooner landlord used to do free
sarnies and peanuts when Arsenal were on telly, sadly no
longer has Sky, but offers the following
alternatives: "the Royal Oak on St.
James' Street, or the Temple Bar on Western Road. No
particular Arsenal affiliations, but they both have Sky."
- Plymouth: Millbridge Inn
- At 23 Moleworth Road, Plymouth, PL2. Edd writes:
"One of the main Gooner pubs in Plymouth, run by gooner
1 big and 1 small screen, no ITVDigital but Sky/ITV/BBC (sic)
Cheap Pizza on Wednesdays/Curry Thursdays
The original Firkin pub (Firkin Brewery nicked it off them!)"
- Brighton: Duke of Wellington
- On Upper Gloucester Rd, near the train station. Neil MacAninch writes,
"Definitely has On Digital, not sure about Sky Digital. Fairly small but cosy local pub."

- Arsenal-dedicated pub run by a diehard gooner and BHA fan (who also
holds many charity events for Albion). 5 screens, shows every match he can!

a pound for 5 minutes afetr every goal!

recent UEFA away games. Plenty of Gooners and good Guinness too!
- Bagshot (Surrey): Fighting Cocks
- In the High St (and Bagshot is J3 off the M3).
Patrick Bingley writes: "Shows all the games on a big screen.
Great pub to watch all games but with one small problem. There will always
more opposition fans present. With the pub being in Surrey you'd expect this
for Man Utd games etc but I have a strange feeling it'll be rammed with
Shakhtar fans for the away leg.
Expect Chester the German Shepherd to wander around growling and the barman
from Leeds to ring the last orders bell everytime Arsenal score.... Just
leave the lucky table at the front alone please."
Pubs showing ITVDigital
- All these pubs have been known to show the Arsenal matches
that are only available (in the UK) on ITVDigital
- We cannot guarantee that they'll be showing any specific game,
but they're all very much worth ringing to check (see
also comments on specific pubs).

info kindly provided by Henry Wallis & Luke Salaman.

Iain writes "seems to show all the games whether on OffDigital or ITV2."

- The landlord at the Old Queen`s head is a rabid gooner (makes all of his
staff wear Arsenal t-shirts etc )
Small TV, perfectly viewable, tends to use the radio as commenty.
- The Bull, St John St, Islington
-
The Bull is another good option, plenty of space, and again the landlord
would welcome a full pub on a Wednesday night.
- Prince of Wales, Allen Rd, Stoke Newington
- Definitely have ITV2, can't be sure about ITVDigital.
Showed the Barcelona game on 29/09/99 on a big screen, with
Man Utd on a small telly in the corner.

Nice pub (converted church), foods pretty good, good selection of beers,
friendly atmosphere and a small but dedicated bunch of gooners ever-present"
