Watching Arsenal in the USA

by Lawrence

Basically during the English season, we get two games on a Saturday morning.

One live game that is covered by Setanta Sport who are an Irish based satellite company with an office in San Francisco, that starts at 10am EST/7am PST which is immediately followed by tape delayed coverage of another match which is shown on Fox Sports World which is a 24 hour cable channel devoted to the world's greatest game.

The game that is shown in England on Sundays is offered out here on pay-per-view through local cable companies. Just by calling and ordering the match for $9.95, you can watch a live Premiership game in the comfort of your own home while knocking back the old bacon, eggs and fried bread. Sunday games kick-off at 11am EST/8am PST.

Later on Sunday evenings on Fox Sports Net, there is the chance to catch up on all the weekend action and news on a two hour highlight show which contains an hour's highlights of the Saturday game that Setanta covered the day before plus goal action from all the other matches.

Also Matthew Lorenzo makes an appearance with a footy version of What the Papers say where he reviews what Fleet Street printed about the previous weeks football stories. The show is hosted by the U.S. version of Jonathan Pearce called Lionel Bienvenu. You have to feel sorry for the guy as he worships Nicky Butt of Manchester United. The funniest thing last season was when he put on an old manure shirt from a couple of years ago with a David Beckham wig and fantasized about dating Posh Spice! The time of this show varies from state to state so it is adviseable to check the TV listings in the area that your located in as the times do differ.

Fox Sports World and its Spanish affiliate Fox Sports World Espanol cover the Monday game that Sky covers back home live out here. This starts at 3pm EST/12 noon PST. ESPN2 covers all the Champions League by covering one live game and one tape delayed game in each round although as of yet I don't know what their plans are for this season with the expanded version.
