Other Arsenals!
Teams around the world have sought to emulate the Gunners in style, shirt,
and name.
To reward them for their excellent taste, we're starting a list....
NB. Not all of these Arsenal teams will necessarily have been named after
THE Arsenal.
See Other Arsenals category in our links section for Arsenals with web sites. This page only lists those without sites (but let us know if you find any)
- Gunners LC
They play in a lower
Belgian league, "Brabant league, fourth division", and have an extraordinary
homepage for such a small club. Maybe there's no connection with the real Gunners though. "LC" stands for "Léopold Club".
Thanks to Abhimanyu Gupta for the tip-off.
|
- Ryde City Gunners
An Aussie team playing in the 1st division of the New South Wales SuperLeague.
|
- Aurora Arsenal
Est 1975 in East Aurora, New York State. They chose Arsenal as the
name ahead of such tempting alternatives as "Aurora Townies" and
"Aurora Wagstins" (?). Close one. Don't know what colour shirt they play in
but the logo (right) was designed by someone called Rix ;-)
|
- Arsenal Tula
- Austin Arsenal
Texas club whose logo makes the connection clear.
|
- Arsenal of Mt Laurel
An U-12 girls team representing the
Mt Laurel United Soccer Association. Head coach Joe Arone is an Arsenal fan and named the team after the Arsenal.
|
- Sycamore Arsenal
- Est 1980 in Cincinatti, Ohio, USA
- Arsenal Boys U-17
- ...from Clinton, Mississippi.
- Arsenal Lesotho
- We first heard of them following their
elimination from the 1999
African Cup-winners cup with a 5-0 loss in the preliminaries.
In Feb 2000 they had 4 players called up for the Lesotho side to
face Zimbabwe (see Reuters). But looking at the other teams
represented (including Lesotho Defence Force, Lesotho Prison Service,
Lesotho Mounted Police) one can't help wondering if this Arsenal
mightn't represent an actual Arsenal...
- Arsenal Amsterdam
- (Dutch FA's amateur 4th division) made famous
by their ex-goalie Chris Keulemans, better known as a travel writer,
who wrote a book about them called 'Overal
Om Me Heen Is Ruimte' (all around me there is space) in 1992. (thanks to
David Winner for the info)
- Arsenal Guadaloupe
- Helge Olsen writes, "They lost the 1995-final of the French cup for local champion from their
overseas-departments, to the strong Réunion-champions."

- Arsenali Tblisi
- (Georgia)
- Arsenal do Bessa
- (Portugal)
- Tersana (Arsenal)
- (Egypt), see here;
- Arsenal Tivat
- In Serbia and Montenegro. Sinisa Zdjelar writes,
"It is a small lower division club from small seaside town.
Never the less, this club has one great player. Ivaic Kralj-Former
Yugoslavia goalkeeper and former player of Partizan Belgrade, Porto an PSV
Eindhoven started his caree in Arsenal Tivat. Now Ivica Kralj is a goale of
Partizan Belgrade".
- Arsenal Wanderers, Mauritius
- See this page for their 1998 Mauritius Cup run.
They beat Burnley but went out to Preston.
- Lobatse GUNNERS
- Play in Botswana, but in yellow and blue stripes so
the Arsenal connection is not for definite.
- Brekum Arsenal
- In Ghana
- Arsenal la Pintada
- In Chile, named after our 1993 cup victories, apparently.
- Arsenal Village
- A place set up by Mauritian gooners, with the cannon sprayed on the town walls. Not sure if they have a football team but if not, why not?
And finally......
- Another Arseweb site!!!
Sadly it appears to be defunct. It looked like something to do with firemen but I've seen it referred to as the "Association of Really Shabby Electricians" site)
- an ArsWeb site
Also sadly defunct. Appeared to
be resources for gay Spanish yachtsmen
No, we're not planning to sue.
