Arsenal disciplinary record, 1998/99The following table lists the number of yellow and red cards received by Arsenal players during the season, as well as the number of matches missed through suspension. Note that the disciplinary rules have been simplified this season. All domestic competitions count together under the same rules. It is still a simple tally of bookings which will count towards incurring suspension, but this season only a one match ban will be handed out for each time a player transgresses the 5 and 8 card limits. If a player reaches 11 cards, it "merits" a visit to the FA and probably an additional 1 or 2 game ban and a fine. NB the following 3 paragraphs and links were only valid during the 98/99 season. The good behaviour scheme has been abandoned this season. The official Arsenal web site AFCi also maintains a list of scorers and bookings, and also contains details of the new disciplinary system. Check Soccernet's fair play table to see whether Arsenal can continue their form of last season. Soccernet also maintains a "Whistleblower" table which keeps a count of cards issued by each Premiership referee, and a subjective assessment of their performance. For those concerned about the recent media frenzy over 'dirty Arsenal', Football365" has an interesting Fair Play league table based on OPTA statistics, which reveals that Arsenal are comfortably in the lower half of the table. In fact if you take the number of fouls conceded, Arsenal are the second cleanest team in the Premiership. This page last updated 12 May 1999
