Tunisia. 2-0 win. Monday June 15th
Adams and Seaman both played the full 90 minutes. Keown was on the bench with Campbell and Southgate both picked alongside him. One has to assume that Gary Neville will play before Keown, although Martin's experience could get him a place before the other defender in the squad, young Rio Ferdinand. Campbell had a good game particularly going forward, but was booked (incredibly, the only England player to get a card despite Batty's attempt to decapitate an opponent with an overhead kick). So Keown's chances still hang on injury and indiscipline from the others. Adams had a reasonable game, although he appeared to let a Tunisian attacker through for the first chance of the game. His shot from near the penalty spot was going straight into Seaman's arms when Campbell got a block on. Fortunately it went wide. Seaman had little to do, thanks partly to English defending but also largely to extraordinarily bad "finishing" from the Africans, and he did it reasonably well. A win against either of Colombia or Romania should see England through.

Romania. 2-1 loss. Monday June 22th
Seaman had a reasonable game in goal. The defence looked a bit shaky but Romaina were reduced to hoofing their shots in from distance for the most part. Adams could have been partly to blame for the first, although Campbell was more at fault for letting Hagi get the cross in, Le Saux was totally to blame for the second. As a friend said, let's hope Batty gives him a lesson on what his shoulder is for.

Colombia. 2-0 win. Friday June 26th
Seaman didn't have much to do. He got his customary dodgy moment out of the way early on when he scuffed a clearance straight to an opposing striker, but largely thanks to Ince it came to nothing. After that there were a few soft shots to deal with but basically he was completely protected by Adams, Campbell, and co. Seaman hasn't had to produce a sparkling performance yet. Adams saw more of the action tonight, and was an absolute rock, possibly his best game in an England shirt. Unpassable at the back in the way only Adams has ever been, somehting I think only regular Arsenal watchers can appreciate, and going forward he got into some good positions too. He was unlucky in the second half with an instantaneous volley after the keeper had parried a Shearer shot. The keeper was still on the ground and Adams fierce strike hit him there. The only thing Adams could have added to his game today was a goal, which is pretty good for a centre back.
