Wenger's message for Arsenal's critics
Arsene Wenger arrives at Highbury. 22nd September 1996
See also Arsene Wenger page in the ArseSouls section for biographical and trivial info on 'Le Boss'.
Stewart Houston's unexpected walkout has prompted Wenger to bring forward his
arrival at Arsenal. He arrived in London yesterday and confirmed that...
- Pat Rice will be his number two. Well deserved reward for not only keeping
things going since Houston's departure, but actually producing a couple of
excellent wins.
- Wenger will accompany the team to our UEFA cup match on Wednesday, but
will be there as a supporter. Rice will be in charge.
- Wenger will then return to Japan for his last match in charge of Grampus8
on Saturday before returning to London for good.
- We are not in a state of crisis
"There have been lots of stories about a crisis, but to me everything
looks quiet here. I have been surprised by the mental strength and character of the players
because it has not been easy for them."
- He also denied reports linking us with Leonardo and Matthias Sammer,
and admitted that a moive for Weah looked "impossible".
Incidentally, it seems that not all North London clubs are free of crisis.
While Wenger was introducing his touch of class to the capital, plucky Tottenham
were busy losing 2-1 at home to Leicester. They now have a commendable 8 points
and 6 goals from 7 games. We have 14 points and 15 goals. Who's in crisis?
Who's boring? Who's in crisis?
