Arsenal reserve match

Avon Insurance Combination Cup, 3rd October 1996

Arsenal 0 Luton 1

I went to see the reserves play today, partly to answer a few questions like where is Marshall and whatever happened to Kiwomya?, but mainly to satisfy my need to watch live football.

Arsenal's line up was Lukic, McGowan, Clarke, Hillier, Marshall, Morrow, Parlour, Hughes, Shaw, Kiwomya and Helder with Michael Black coming on for Glenda half way through the second half. The opposition was Luton and .... they won 1-0 !!!:-((

It really was terrible football, but all of my questions were answered. Marshall is playing poorly although he did manage a few good tackles and blocks, his distribution was poor and he did not look interested. Kiwomya was on the pitch and that about sums up his contribution! As for the rest it was fairly uniformly terrible. We started with a 4-4-2 combination and looked very dodgy when they broke. In the second half (they scored in the first) we switched to 3-5-2 and looked a bit better but the easiest way to sum it all up is Hillier as sweeper was our best player!! To be fair Parlour put himself about a bit and Helder tried for a bit although his finishing was absolutely terrible. I couldn't see Wenger anywhere but if he has any sense he is searching high and low for some better prospects whilst also doing his best to get rid of this dross!

a not happy Hartson's Mum

p.s. Luton's number 9 - Stuart Douglas was caught offside even more than Johnny which is just as well otherwise the final score could've been very embarrassing
