Preview

  • Arsenal team news
We suspect that a full strenght first team will not be evident.

Graham Stack is likely to play in goal., so as to protect Stuart Taylor from injury in case Wrighty and Seaman are a a while getting back.

    update Monday
See newsreel for team news and comment, including link to full squad list. Potential first team debust could go to Juan, Stack, Svard, and Aliadiere.

  • Grimsby team news
Phil Jevons is a doubt. Jevons scored the spectacular last-minute extra time goal which beat Liverpool at Anfield in the last round. A knee problem saw him on the bench for their 1-0 defeat by Burnley on Friday. So he's fit, but could start on the bench again.

Tony Gallimore is suspended for accumulation of bookings.

According to the wonderfully titled Electronic Fishcake, 3 players picked up injuries in that game against Burnley. They are Boulding (hip), Rowan (back), and Pouton (heel).

All 3 are receiving treatment but are rated as doubtful. We are looking into the matter, and will let you know when we find out who they are.

Aha. This Player profiles page might help. Or this one from the official site.

Also check out the match preview from the official Grimsby site.

    update Monday
There's now also this from the Electronic Fishcake. Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence is understanding concentrating on their next league game (aren't we all, Lennie). Those 4 players listed as dountful above are all said to be definitely out, except for Jevons.

This BBC preview has some interesting historical stuff. Did you know that their last spell in the top flight ended in 1948, with a match at Highbury? A repeat of that 8-0 Arsenal win would be quite satisfactory.

    update Tuesday
More team news from the Electronic Fishcake. Boulding is now listed as a possible starter. Jevons is in. Their second choice keeper is cup-tied.

  • UK TV/Radio coverage
The match is being broadcast on Capital Gold (in London, that is. South Coast listeners get Soton vs Bolton, and Brum listeners get a magazine programme and phone-in).

ITV Sport (digital only) are showing the Newcastle-Ipswich game live. It's possible that there will be goals from the others. There is a highlights programme on Wednesday night in London and most (possibly all?) other regions, this will concentrate on that night's Chelsea-Leeds game (also live on ITV sport) but there will be brief highlights of the rest of the ties.
