Highbury, Saturday 22nd September 2001
FA Carling Premiership
Preview
- Arsenal team news
Martin Keown is suspended, for elbowing Mark Viduka in the
Highbury clash last season (a trial-by-video suspension).
With Adams and Campbell injured, the big question is again
over the defence. Grimandi, who looked a little shaky to start
with on Wednesday but came through it alright, must be a cert.
Upson's late appearance that night, albeit with seconds to go,
suggests he might be the Grimster's partner. But Stepanovs is
a possibility too.
I'm assuming that Luzhny and Dixon are still unavailable. But
At least Ashley Cole can return at left-back. Gio looked good
going forward on Wednesday and will probably return to midfield.
It'll be interesting to see if he ends up on the left of midfield.
So far Pires looks more useful in the freer central midfield role
alongside Vieira, and Bronco looks more useful on the flank.
Freddie or Parlour could play on the right...
update Friday
Looks like Adams and Luzhny are fit after all,
and could start tomorrow. See this newsreel piece

new signing Rod Wallace scored within minutes of coming on as a
sub in his debut game against Blackburn this week. But Holdsworth
and Ricketts could start up front.
They've also just signed ex French international defender
Bruno N'Goty and Jamaica midfielder Jermaine Johnson.
Per Frandsen is out with ankle ligament damage, and
Djibril Diawara and Gareth Farrelly are doubftul having missed the
midweek game with hamstring and knee injuries respectively,
and Nicky Southall is unlikely to return from his hamstring problem.
Colin Hendry has returned from injury but with their defence
doing well so far he's unlikely to make the starting line-up.
