Bayer_Leverkusen vs Arsenal

Leverkusen, Tuesday 19th February 2002

UEFA Champions League, stage 2 match 3

Preview

  • Arsenal team news
Oleg Luzhny serves the third of his 4 match ban for the sending off against Schalke.

Tony Adams does not travel. Despite making a winning (and crucial goal-scoring) return in Saturday's cup tie, he did suffer a reaction to his foot injury.

However Dennis Bergkamp has made the trip. It's unusual for him to be going to an away match in Europe, and presumably he'd be staying at home if he wasn't suspended from our next Premiership match.

The problems are therefore in defence. Keown Upson Cole and Adams are injured. Added to Luzhny's ban and we're left with Stepanovs or Grimandi to partner Campbell. At least Lauren is back (eventually), but it looks likely that Gio will have to play at left back.

  • Bayer_Leverkusen team news
    Right-back Lucio is injured.
