Highbury, Saturday 9th December 2000
FA Carling Premiership
Preview
- Arsenal team news
There are reports that Patrick Vieira will miss the game, and
probably the Spurs game next week too, because of a hamstring injury
picked up against Bayern.
- Newcastle_United team news
Alan Shearer is likely to be missing with a knee problem.
He's due to have a scan today (4th) which could see him out for a
month, but at the other extreme he could be back in time to
visit Arsenal on Saturday. Carl Cort is definitely out
till the New Year.
Alain Goma suffered a torn calf muscle in the draw at Villa
at the weekend and will be out for a while. Aaron Hughes
went off with "concussion and sustained cuts and bruises" and
is doubtful too.
update Monday 54th the result of Shearer's scan is that
he will definitely NOT be ready for Arsenal. He needs an exploratory
op tomorrow and is now aiming at Newcastle's match with Bradford City
a week after the Highbury match, as the earliest possible date for
his return. Hughes however is looking likely to make
the Arsenal matche.
